FAQs

Can Safeguardian be used in settings other than schools and youth clubs?

Absolutely! Our primary focus is child safeguarding - and we believe the app can be used in any community concerned with the welfare of children – but if you have another potential use case, please get in touch and we can discuss your options.

Do you provide safeguarding training?

We do not provide training courses. Instead, we aim to reinforce and consolidate any training undertaken by those in charge of children and to provide readily accessible safeguarding information to anyone who needs it, whenever and wherever they need it. However, we do know plenty of excellent providers of training courses. Please get in touch for a recommendation.

Does Safeguardian hold DBS records?

The app is not designed to link to or hold DBS records. Doing so would create issues with data protection rights and in any event we do not believe this function would promote a culture of safeguarding. Whilst DBS checks are an important part of the child protection process they are not a panacea - and should not be relied upon as a single source of comfort.

Does the app enable users to report safeguarding concerns?

No. We took the decision not to develop the app with this functionality because we felt it would introduce risk for those with safeguarding responsibilities. However, details of the organisation-specific process for reporting concerns are front-and-centre of the user experience.

Does Safeguardian use Artificial Intelligence? Why can’t we just use AI?

We are exploring the potential to deploy AI within Safeguardian. However, we do not believe the AI platforms currently available are sufficiently advanced to be safely relied upon in this arena. Whilst LLM generative AI can certainly produce useful summaries of voluminous guidance, we know from experience that accuracy is questionable. But ultimately child safeguarding is – and will always be – about human beings. Computers alone cannot create the culture needed for a child-safe community.
